Function

Academic department: History, Archaeology, Arts, Philosophy & Ethics
Subject area: History of the European city in the High and Late Middle Ages (c. 1000-1500)

Teaching

  • The applicant has sufficient knowledge of the methodology of medieval historiography and documentary sources.
  • The applicant has an ample degree of autonomy in determining the content of courses, compulsory or elective, in the domain of medieval history.
  • Starting academic year 2023-2024 the applicant will be fully in charge within the historical curriculum for the domain of the Middle Ages.

Research

  • The applicant will autonomously submit project applications for external funding and invigorate applications of others, involving historians and archaeologists inside and outside her or his own institution.

Other

  • Knowledge of Dutch at the end of the mandate is compulsory.

Every first appointment is dependent upon the successful delivery of a teaching session.

Members of academic faculty with teaching duties are required to prove their command of the teaching language. E.g.: for teaching in English the candidate provides evidence of proficiency in English at C1 level by submitting a language certificate (or a waiver).

Depending on your experience and academic merits you will receive a salary on one of the pay scales laid down by the government. Hospitalisation cover and free use of public transport for travel to and from work are standard conditions of employment. If you would rather cycle to work, compensation is also available for that. Both campuses have extensive sporting facilities which are at your disposal and a nursery is within walking distance.
